Royal Adelaide Show 2010
What the judge of the Royal Adelaide Show, Mr. David Powers of Mexico, said about our Sammi...
"Lovely example of a Border Collie with correct movement (seems like she could keep on for hours). Good head and expression. Lovely outline, also good to and fro." |

SA State Games Championships 2010!
I decided to enter the State Games Championships, purely to catch up with friends and to spend a nice warm day in the sun with the dogs.
No success was expected as I have not done any training with the dogs this year...well, perhaps this is the secret - we had a great day and some wonderful results!
Tully won the morning Snooker Master class, and came third in the afternoon event, finishing second overall, after the results of both trials were averaged. These qualifications also gave Tully his SDM title!
Ellie won the morning Excellent Snooker and Excellent Gamblers classes, and qualified again in both in the afternoon, winning the Excellent Gamblers class overall! Ellie and her daughter Shae - Calanais In The Stars AD JD (owned by Wendy Horne) - also qualified in the Novice Strategic Pairs class. These qualifications gave Ellie her GDX and SDX titles!
Sammi made her Games debut and picked up several qualifications in Novice Gamblers and Strategic Pairs. She finished second overall in Novice Gamblers and also in Novice Strategic Pairs with her partner Jinks - Tookurra Hi Jinks (owned by Jennie Sullivan)!
Lara (Tully's sister - OC Calanais One Fine Day UD ADM JDX GDX SDX SPDX - owned by Alexa McKenzie) had some success with her Strategic Pairs Master's partner OC and Ag Ch Jillaru UD ADM JDM ADO JDO GDX SDX SPDX (owned by Michelle Vasey-McGuiness), winning the State Title!

Royal Adelaide Show 2010!
A wonderful day at the 2010 Royal Adelaide Show, considering that both of my girls were out of coat.
From a large entry of Border Collies, Sammi was awarded first place in the Intermediate Bitch class, Bitch challenge and BEST OF BREED!
Her mum Ellie also won the Australian Bred bitch class.
Ross was third in the Intermediate Dog class (Check out the new pic on his page!).
Well done to all of the other class winners!
A big thanks to Alexa McKenzie for preparing Sammi and Ellie, as usual, and to Luke Johanson for coming along and helping for the day.

Metropolitan Kennel Club (18 July 2010)
Gamble had his first shows in SA today. He showed like a superstar, winning Best Dog and Runner Up Best of Breed at the Open show and Reserve Challenge Dog at the Championship Show.
Miranda made a comeback to the show ring after about two years on the side lines - right in time for a coat drop! She was Best Bitch and Best of Breed at the Open show and Reserve Challenge Bitch at the Champ Show. |
Some fun in the park (July 2010)
A few pictures of the dogs and I in the park, taken to accompany a newspaper article about my PhD research... |

'Gamble' calls Adelaide home once again (June 2010)
Our special guy 'Gamble' ~ Ch. Calanais What Happens In Vegas ~ is back home in Adelaide. We thank Nadia, Jason and David for all of their wonderful results with 'Gamble' over the last few years in Brisbane, and can't wait to see him in the ring and hopefully continuing his winning ways, here in Adelaide!
'Gamble' was Puppy in Show at the Toowoomba Royal 2009, won the Intermediate Dog class at Sydney Royal 2010, has won multiple class in group/show awards, Specialty Reserve Challenge winner, as well as multiple Runner Up Best in Group awards...and he only turned two this week! |

An update from Queensland!
After some time out to mature, Gamble has made a return to the show ring with some exciting results!
Sydney Royal Easter Show - WINNER Intermediate Dog Class.
In Queensland - two Best of Breed awards , one with a nice Aust Bred in Group award, and one with a Runner-Up Best in Group!
Well done to Nadia and Jason on these great results! |
A change of plans...
Unfortunately, we decided that it was best not to go the national agility and jumping titles in Perth. With everything else going on, decisions had to be made!
But, on a positive note, a dog show has now been entered, and thus we look forward to our late start to 2010! |
2010 - A quiet start...
2009 was such a wonderful year for us and the dogs. So many exciting things happened - the Border Collie National Show, some exciting wins for the dogs in the show and agility rings, Sian gained her Agility Champion title and became the first Dual Champion (A) in Australia, and 4 new Calanais champions were made! I also had the pleasure of once again visiting Singapore and conducting some Agility training seminars, as well as competing in some Agility trials and four Conformation shows!
2010 is set to be a really big year for us. In March, after almost ten years, Katie and I will get married! Then we will set off to Europe for over a month - a combination of honeymoon time and some Uni commitments for me. Within 48 hours of arriving home from Europe, I will be heading off to Western Australia with Sian, for her last appearance at the Agility Nationals. Her preparation will be non-existent, but I am really looking forward to going along with her and giving it our best shot, but mainly just enjoying my time in the ring with her.
Amongst all of this, I will be completing my Doctoral thesis!
For all of these reasons, we will be taking a break from all other competitions in the first half of 2010. We hope that by the middle of the year we will be right back in to it, but for the time being the dogs are enjoying daily runs at the park and swims at the beach! |
