Dogzonline Pointscore 2009

A nice finish to the year with Gamble finishing as the number 5 Rising Star Border Collie in Australia. Sister Sammi also finished in the top 20 on the Rising Star Border Collie leaderboard.

Ellie and Gamble both also finished in the top 20 on the Border Collie All Breeds leaderboard.

We had a quiet second half of the year, so are pleased with these results, and look forward to an exciting 2010!

Merry Christmas from Calanais

We hope you have a safe and wonderful Christmas, and a happy and successful 2010!

TWO new champions!! (21-22/11/09)

A really exciting weekend for us, with TWO new champions!

Jet finished off his title in fine style, winning Best of Breed on both days (10 and 11 points)! Jet becomes the fourth champion titled progeny for his dam, Sian! In fact, Jet is the third titled progeny from Sian's litter to Grand Champion Tullacrest Soul Mate - what a great combination!

Thanks to Margaret and Jo for all their help, support, and the great care they have given Jet!

Sammi also completed her title on Saturday, picking up that final ONE point, with an 8 point bitch challenge, and Runner Up Best of Breed to Jet! This also makes Sammi the third champion progeny for her dam, Ellie - from her first litter. Thanks again to Lynn and Bill Harrison for allowing us to use Liam - Champion Tullacrest Ice Man (AI)!

Thanks also to Alexa McKenzie for her continued support - both at the competitions and behind the scenes - we couldn't do it without you!

Ross also came along for a day out on Sunday for the first time since July! Now in the Puppy dog class, Ross behaved like a seasoned showdog, winning Puppy of Breed. Ross is from Miranda, by Ch. Tookurra The Wild Card.

Dogs SA Annual Awards (16/11/09)

We are happy to announce that this year Ellie received two Dogs SA Top Dog Awards. Ellie won the Top Novice Snooker Title, and the Top Novice Gamblers Title, bringing our tally to 27 top dog awards!

Congratulations also to Tully's favourite girlfriend - Ebony - Waveney Stare N Whisper AD JDX, owned by Jason and Kelly Schultz, on winning the Top Excellent Jumping Title award!

Asian adventures (31/10/09 - 15-11/09)

We recently had the pleaure of visiting Singapore and Thailand. This time Katie came along too, and we were fortunate enough to attend the Asian Kennel Union dog shows in Singapore with Spice - Singapore Champion Calanais Million Dollar Strong.

From three shows, Spice was awarded all three bitch challenges, two runner up best of breeds, and one best of breed. She also went on to win Runner Up Best in Group and RESERVE YEARLING IN SHOW!!!!

A big thanks to Debra and Dexter once again for their incredible generosity. Katie and I both had such a great time!

A quick catch up! (28/10/09)

We recently had a stored sample of Sian's DNA analysed, and have found that she is CLEAR of the TNS mutation. Though we suspected this already, it is great to have it confirmed. This clears all of our dogs by parentage, with the exception of Tully, who was DNA tested CLEAR a number of years ago.

Also, congratulations are in order to Nadia and David Radcliffe on completing Mia's Australian Champion title. Mia is another of Tully's daughters and becomes his second champion titled progeny - Ch. Classicyds Cool To Be Mi.

Sammi is resting happily on 99 championship points!!! No shows have been attended for over a month, and it will be another three weeks before we have the opportunity to try for that last point. I couldn't believe it when I added up her points - particularly when I realised the next shows were not for weeks and weeks!!

Finally, Gamble represented us proudly at the Queensland Puppy of the Year contest. Though he was knocked out in the second round, we were just so happy that he made it to the final and showed so well on the night. Congratulations again to Nadia and David on qualifying Gamble for the event, and thanks to David for doing such a good job on the night.

Better late than never...(10/09)

Well the updates haven't been as regular as I would like, but I'll do my best to recall as much as I can!

Mirri has recently obtained her SD title.

Sian gained her SDM title on the same day!

Tully gained his JDO title!

Ellie has been doing some beautiful runs, and is fast accumulating qualifications in both Masters Agility and Masters Jumping...picking up a few wins on the way.

Mirri has also had a successful debut in Masters Jumping, with a qualification and a few near misses!!!

...and Fraser gained an Opening Jumping qualification!! Go Luke and Fraser!

DOGS SA State Games Championships (26/09/09)

A great day at the State Championships, with some great runs from all of the dogs!

Sian is the 2009 Masters Snooker State Champion!

Mirri wins the Novice Snooker State Champion title!

Matching trophies for daughter and mother - and below,
Sian is still tired after a big day!

Vale - Max (21/09/09)

Today I received the tragic news that the beautiful 'Max' - Black Diamond Maximillion - owned by Debra and Dexter Sim, passed away suddenly yesterday.

It was only a little over a week ago that I had the pleasure of handling Max to a win at the USDAA trials in Singapore, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to handle Dexter's special dog.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Debra and Dexter on this shocking and sad loss.

New Agility Champion (19/09/09)!!!

Today is a special day with Sian gaining the final qualification required for her AGILITY CHAMPION title! And what a journey it has been. We are so proud of Sian who always tries her hardest at everything she does.

Gaining this title makes Sian the first DUAL CHAMPION (A) in Australia!

All good things must come to an end...(15/09/09)!

Sadly, my time in Singapore has come to an end and I am now sitting in Perth, Western Australia, waiting for the flight back home to Adelaide. This was my third trip to Singapore, and definitely the best yet!

To handle dogs in both conformation and agility trials overseas was amazing and something I never thought I would get the chance to do. I enjoyed both weekend events immensely, and with the added bonus of handling a dog I bred to her SINGAPORE CHAMPION title this is a trip I will remember forever.

Of course the sights, sounds, tastes, and excitement of cosmopolitan Singapore are always highlights, and this time was no exception. The lifestyle is definitely one I could get used to...

Meeting other canine enthusiasts is always great too. Thanks to all of the other competitors at the USDAA trial for making me feel so welcome, and to the staff of the Pet Lovers Centre for making me feel only slightly embarrassed by giving me so many balloons and taking so many photos!

It was wonderful to meet USDAA judge Mr. John Zhou of China; President of the United States Dog Agility Association, Mr. Kenneth Tasch; Judge, Roel of the Phillippines; and Sue and Adrienne of Malaysia's Penang Agility Association.

Thank you so much to Debra and Dexter for making all of these experiences possible. Both your hospitality and generosity were once again 'fit for a king'. It was wonderful to see Spice again and to see how spoilt she is! Thank you.

To Debra...thanks for all the Chao Fan!!

And to Dexter...next time we meet...Turtle Soup LAH!!!

Singapore's 6th USDAA Tournament (12-13/09/09)!

I was lucky enough to witness and take part in my first overseas Agility and Jumping trials. Debra and Dexter's PUPS Training School hosted the 6th USDAA Tournament at Singapore's west coast dog run this past weekend.

Included at the event over the weekend were individual agility and jumping trials, as well as a 3 dog team tournament, comprising snooker, gamblers, relay agility and individual jumping.

I handled Debra and Dexter's 'Max' - Black Diamond Maximillion AD JD UDX over the weekend. Max ran really well for me, considering the lack of training we had done together. We won an individual jumping class, and gained a clear round in the jumping and gamblers teams event - our team finishing THIRD overall. Thanks to my team mates Nicole and Hope, and Gillian and Skye, for a fun weekend and of course to Debra and Dexter for allowing me to run their special dog Max!

Royal Adelaide Show (05/09/09)!

Ellie and Sammi went along to the royal show with Alexa. With Kari Harding doing a great job as handler, Sammi won the Junior bitch class, and Ellie was placed second in the Aust Bred bitch class.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to Alexa and Kari for getting the girls in the ring in my absence!

New Champion (06/09/09)!

What an exciting day with Spice in Singapore! Today was Singapore's 2nd Federation Cynologique Internationale Championship Dog Show.

A somewhat fidgety Spice was awarded Best of Breed from an entry of 4 Border Collies; 3 imported from Australia and 1 the progeny of one of these imported dogs.

This final BOB was enough to qualify Spice for the title of Singapore Champion!

But, after a promise not to move while stacked...

Success - with Spice awarded 3rd Best in Pastoral Group and Best Junior in Group!

And just to prove that she could show like a professional...

RESERVE BEST JUNIOR IN SHOW!

Congratulations and thanks to Dexter and Debra Sim on

Singapore Champion Calanais Million Dollar Strong

...our first international champion!

A Singapore reunion with Spice (04/09/09)!

I am at the airport waiting for a plane to take me away to one of my favourite places - Singapore. This 10 day visit will be the first time I have seen Spice (Calanais Million Dollar Strong) since dropping the then 12 week old puppy off at a freight company here in Adelaide, a little over a year ago.

Our sun loving Spice has been accounting well for herself in Singapore. Now just 5 points short of her Singapore championship title, this weekend coming will hopefully see me handle her to this title. This weekend, Singapore will hold an FCI Dog Show, and I am so excited to be attending and to be handling a dog that I bred. Im unsure of what to expect, given that Spice is still a youngster, but will certainly be doing my best to finish off that title!

In addition to this dog show and the great time I have catching up with my good friends Debra and Dexter, I will also get to train with some local and international agility competitors during the week, before handling the wonderful 'Max' - Black Diamond Maximillion AD JD UDX in a USDAA Agility Tournament. I'm really excited about this too - I've been following the progress of the USDAA agility code in Singapore and am so pleased to see it really taking off. Most of this has been because of the hard work that Dexter and Debra have put in, so they should be really proud to see it coming to fruition.

Unfortunately a scheduling clash means that I will miss the Adelaide Royal this year. However, all is not lost. Thankfully, Alexa will take two of the four dogs I entered and with the help of handler Kari Harding, I hope that Ellie and Sammi can do us proud! I know I will be eagerly awaiting the results...

So, I feel like there are some exciting times ahead! Stay tuned - I'll be adding the results as they happen...as well as a picture or two I'm sure!

Gawler Dog Training Club (30/08/09)

2nd National Border Collie Show - Critiques.

The first of the critiques from the Border Collie National Show have been released, with Ellie receiving a lovely one from the judge of the Gaited Bitch class, Mr. Ross Green (UK).

I liked this B/W bitch, was sound out and back and then simply glided round the ring with a smooth tireless gait, good reach in front and behind. She really is a quality mover with minimum lift of feet, correct in pastern, no unnecessary lift behind, lovely graceful outline and a top-line with no bounce or lift. Sure she could have continued to lap the ring a further dozen times and still not miss a beat.

2nd National Border Collie Show - Canberra (06 -08/03/09)!

A wonderful few days amongst hundreds of Border Collies...

I was thrilled to be able to get to the 2nd National Border Collie Show, this year held in Canberra, ACT. I must thank our friends Jason and Kelly Schultz, for making it possible for me to have both Ellie and Sammi there too. They took the girls by road for us, as with babies at home and work commitments I was unable to take the time to drive. Huge thanks again to Jason and Kelly for all their hard work and phone calls throughout the weekend, but in particular during my rush to make it from the airport to the showgrounds in time for the judging!

Thanks also to Luke Johanson for use of his trailer - making it possible for Sammi and Ellie to make the trip to Canberra.

Jacquie Johns also prepared Sammi for me and was ready to step in to the ring with her, had I not made it to the grounds in time! I think Jacquie also partially dressed me outside the ring - thanks Jac!

Sammi was the first of my girls in the ring - placing THIRD in a very competitve Minor Puppy Bitch class of 14 bitches.

Ellie then had her go in the Australian Bred Bitch class. This class was one of the biggest in the show with 47 entries. It took well over an hour to judge, and after several 'cuts', Ellie was placed SECOND in the class!

On the Sunday morning was the Bitch Property classes...

From 30 bitches, and after a lot of laps of the huge show ring, Ellie was awarded BEST GAITED BITCH!

A huge congratulations to our SA friends on their great results also - Paula Wachtel on her 1st place in the Baby Puppy Dog class with Tookurra Wild At Heart, Lynn and Bill Harrison with 2nd place in the Open Bitch class with Gr Ch. Tullacrest Moulen Rouge and 1st place Intermediate Dog with Tullacrest Ice Man (AI), Kaye Hansen with success across THREE disciplines, Lauren Mitchell from Harvellie with both obedience and jumping success, and of course to Gail and Alan Hall - Best in Show - with Ch. Innisman All Said N Done! Congratulations!!!

It was wonderful to catch up with friends from interstate, and to meet some new ones. Thanks to Nadia and David Radcliffe for their hospitality over the weekend and for providing me with a trolley to use and a place to sit!

Looking forward to the next nationals already!!

Ellie on the move in the Australian Bred bitch class...

Some great results for Gamble (01/03/09)!

Well done to David and Nadia Radcliffe in Queensland on some great results with Gamble - Calanais What Happens In Vegas.
