Calanais Kennels was registered in early 2004. However, Luke Schneider has been involved in dog training and competition since buying his first Border Collie cross, ‘Salah ADM JDX ET’ in 1994. After catching the Agility bug, ‘Bailey ADM JDM ET GD SD ’ was introduced to the family in early 1998, and from this point there has been no looking back...

‘Bailey’ was the Agility dog of a lifetime, but is also a much loved ‘family man’. ‘Bailey’ introduced Luke, and the Schneider family to the world of Border Collies. Bailey’s sire and dam were both recognised purebreds; however the litter was not registered. So, our first recognised Border Collie was ‘Sian’.

‘Sian’ was exhibited in conformation with much success, easily gaining her Australian Champion title, as well as several class in group awards. 'Sian' produced two lovely and very successful litters, before being desexed.

Luke has instructed at Agility clubs for several years, and in 2004 was invited to Singapore by the Singapore Kennel Club to conduct Agility training seminars. During the week in Singapore, Luke was lucky enough to be able to visit a large search and rescue training facility to see some wonderful dogs in action. In 2007, Luke again visited Singapore where he conducted more agility seminars, and also judged an unsanctioned trial.

Luke has handled a variety of dogs to many awards, including many South Australian Canine Association Top Dog Awards. In total, Luke has had a part in the winning of 22 S.A.C.A. Top Dog Awards since 1999.

Luke has also handled three dogs to FIVE National Agility and Jumping Titles, as well as several Runner-Up awards.

Calanais dogs have won many awards and gained many titles in Conformation, Obedience and Agility. We are proud of OC Calanais One Fine Day UD ADX JDX GD SDX SPD who is the first Calanais Obedience Champion, and our first Calanais show champions and class in group winners, Ch. C. Cool As Ice ADX JDM GDX SDX SPD ET, Ch. C. Walk The Line, Ch. C. Kinky Boots CD. Ch. C. Cool As Ice is also a state Agility champion, while OC C. One Fine Day ADX JDX GD SDX SPD is a state Obedience champion.

2008 saw the first litter from a Calanais bred bitch, with Ch. Calanais Kinky Boots CD, producing 7 puppies to Tullacrest Ice Man (AI). Our lovely baby Sammi is already a challenge and class in group winner at just 7 months old!
